First Aid/CPR is Online!
Online training provides a new and convenient way to learn First Aid and CPR knowledge and skills. This blended learning training combines online learning of the First Aid and CPR/AED skills with an approximately 2 – 3 hour instructor led classroom session. Note: Because this is a web based application you will need an Internet browser (Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher or Netscape 6.2 or higher). Content is in Portable Document format (PDF) and Macromedia Flash Player. You must have a valid e-mail address as well. For more information, click here .

New Diversity Equivalency Credit
Adult Development has a new Diversity Equivalency Credit Workshop! This workshop has now taken the place of the old written equivalency credit. This workshop highlights the key learnings from our three hour required training Creating an Inclusive Culture in Girl Scouting.

How to Complete the Equivalency Credit
To receive credit for the Creating an Inclusive Culture in Girl Scouting Equivalency Credit volunteers must:

  • Have taken a diversity training with another organization or through their employer (preferably within the last five years).

  • Complete the on-line workshop

  • Complete the course review and registration form and submit it. This form will ask you to provide information about the training taken (the organization sponsoring the training, when it was taken, key content pieces from the training)

The workshop is not available on the council website. It has a special link. If you think you qualify for the workshop, email Edwina Scoby – escoby@grgsc.org and request the link.

Alternate options for training completion
Don’t forget! You can complete your training in different ways. Girl Scouts - Great Rivers Council provides many different ways to complete both required and enrichment trainings:
• Traditional classroom courses (the best way to learn and network with other volunteers)
• PDF downloads from the website
• Orientation to the Organization and Brownie Girl Scout Age Level Training Online
• Enrichment Workshops Online

The only training that does not have a home study or online option is Creating an Inclusive Culture in Girl Scouting which is offered every month in a classroom setting. If you would like a home study pleased call your Training Delivery Specialist. Click here to see these other options online.

Training Festivals
Do you need to complete one or more trainings? Training festivals offer a great opportunity to complete them in one day!  Below are the training festivals for the months of October and November:

Ask Jessica
Do you have a burning question about training? Is training just confusing you to no end? Ask Jessica! Jessica G. will have the answers for you. All you have to do is click here to e-mail Jessica Gutierrez and your questions will be answered monthly.

Jessica,
I understand that adult development deals with recognitions, and I really want to nominate our Service Unit Manager for an award. Where can I get information about recognitions?

- Awards R. Important

Hi Awards,
There are many different ways that you can research the adult recognitions. You can contact your training liaison, and ask her for information about adult recognitions. She should have information about all of the different awards, and even a how to write a nomination letter.
The adult development page on the council website offers a lot of resources regarding adult recognitions. You can click on the Adult Recognitions Section , where there will be information on how to nominate, and the different awards that are available, and the forms needed for nominations. In addition to this in the Enrichment Section of the adult development page there is an online workshop on how to write a nomination letter.
I would suggest starting this process immediately because of the time it takes to complete the nomination process. Most awards require nomination letter(s). Writing letters and organizing the nomination often takes a while. All adult nominations are due to the Girl Scout January 31, 2008!

HELP PROTECT OUR GIRL SCOUTS!

As you know, Great Rivers Council is committed to providing a safe and quality program for girls in our community as they participate in the Girl Scout program. And to continue our commitment to safety, we’d like to remind all volunteers to help us keep our Girl Scouts safe. Don’t forget to complete your criminal history background check. At this time, all volunteers only have to complete the background check once. The best option to complete your background check is online at http://backgroundcheck.grgsc.org where your information is transmitted over a secure site. If you do not have a home computer, the website can be accessed from any public library and the information will still be transmitted securely. To maximize the security of your personal information, please ensure you completely log off the library computer after completing the background check.

If you do not have access to a computer, please contact the volunteer human resources manager, Linda Wilkinson at 513-489-1025 ext.140 or 1-800-537-6241 to receive the paperwork to send your information directly to Intellicorp by mail or by fax. If you have received a yellow confirmation postcard or completed your volunteer application after September 2004, then you have already completed your background check. And please remember, at this time, all volunteers only have to complete the background check once.

Please help us to show our continued commitment to girls’ safety and complete your background check right away!
